In May 2022, the Deutsche Bahn Cargo company equipped the last 2100HP locomotive with Traction diesel engine idle reduction plant (third energy source) in a process of modernization of the fleet of diesel electric locomotives started in 2018.
This modernization brings many benefits to the company by saving fuel, oil, reducing the wear and tear of the traction diesel engine, auxiliary services and implicitly maintenance expenses.

The diesel economy achieved, for example, in the year 2021 was over 250t, reducing environmental precipitation by 668t CO2, and the operating time of the traction diesel engine was reduced by approx. 50%.
In addition, DB Cargo Romania installed on the respective locomotives an electronic, automatic, diagnostic system that supervises the operation of all the structures, equipment, installations of the old railway engine and, for the first time, also monitors the support bearings of the electric traction motors. Also, a series of important technical and economic parameters such as the energy consumed in traction mode and by auxiliary services, are recorded and transmitted online on a server.
Thanks to the method of data transmission, the operator has real-time access to the vehicles equipped with these systems, being able to keep under observation both their technical condition and the way in which the locomotive personnel perform their duties.
Another advantage that DB Cargo enjoys is the fact that the system has the ability to automatically send an e-mail to the operator in the event of a fault, as well as to show the fault on the display in real time.
Thus, having all the parameters displayed on a screen in the driver's seat, the mechanic can focus particularly on traffic safety.
