INTELLIGENT MICRO-GRID - System intended for the integration of renewable sources - RES in distributed networks, with the measurement, control and data processing platform

SUMMARY OF THE PROJECT

The project consists of developing a "Smart Microgrid" system consisting of five stands for testing and controlling the energy chain for converting renewable energies (hydro, wind, solar-photovoltaic) into electricity, as well as solutions for integrating these types of RES systems into smart microgrids.

The stands each include an electro-mechanical assembly in which the primary energy production part (wind, hydro) is simulated by means of turbine emulators capable of reproducing the dynamic mechanical behavior of real turbines, under laboratory conditions. The emulator is based on a variable speed electric drive system with an asynchronous motor, a frequency converter and a real-time command and control system. The mechanical axis of the asynchronous motor represents the axis of the virtual turbine to which the actual generator is attached.
The mechanical energy conversion part into electrical energy consists of an electro-mechanical chain that includes the generator, power electronic devices, protections, a real-time control system, specific transducers and measuring devices.

The system is installed in the Laboratory of the Advanced Electrical Systems Department, within the PRO-DD Institute of Transilvania University in Brasov.
